Episode #7: Sarah Mayland

In this episode Drs. Joanna and Ilan sit down with Sarah Mayland. Sarah is a certified personal trainer, fitness nutritionist, clinical mental health counselor, and the owner of Inside Out Transformations.

Sarah shares her story of how she overcame her own challenges while in graduate school and how she used these experiences to shape her approach to helping women in her practice today.

Sarah shares her thoughts and expertise in various topics including how the messaging within our culture and society shapes how we perceive our own bodies, the mindset behind fad diets and why they don’t tend to provide long lasting changes, and the mental aspect of the weight loss journey.

Sarah also provides some of her insights into aspects of mental health including building healthier habits around consistent exercise and diet by thinking about what is going to best serve your body, building better relationships with food and movement, and rethinking the concept of “self care”.

We hope you enjoy this episode!

Guest Bio:

Sarah Mayland is a weight loss coach, certified personal trainer, fitness nutrition specialist and clinical mental health counselor.

With the mission to empower women to take on the challenge of becoming their best selves throughout their weight loss journey, she has taught the valuable lessons of self-love and acceptance.

Her path toward becoming a weight loss coach started throughout her undergraduate years when she struggled with weight management herself but was able to overcome those challenges through working with dietitians and establishing a fitness routine.

As we all know, life throws us curve balls and a healthy lifestyle becomes more difficult to maintain, especially while pregnant and going through grad school simultaneously. She was able to once again conquer those challenges but with an entirely new perspective.

These life experiences really opened her eyes to the false belief that women and mothers so often accept; that self-love is conditional. This awoke a passion within her to provide women with the support they need to feel strong, confident and happy, particularly throughout pregnancy and postpartum periods. She has been able to combine her clinical counseling background and personal experiences with weight loss coaching strategies to help women make lasting changes in their lives.
